Hiatos is a painting project that addresses my frustration with the medium. A little violently, a little delicately (more violent than delicate), I paired already painted canvases and pasted them together, covering one with the other. Then, I cut the canvases, broke the frames, forcing the materials with the intention of creating compositions with hidden spaces, compositions to approach and look closely, to discover, to see what is in front and what lies behind. I sought to give the work volume, to make it heavy, so that its body – almost three-dimensional – interrupted the two-dimensional space.
